Editor's note: The Garfield County Sheriff's Office reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Domestic arrest: Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of Iron Wedge Circle in Battlement Mesa on Oct. 21 at 2:43 p.m. Joshua James Sears, 36, of Battlement Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, child abuse – negligence, third degree assault, false imprisonment, possession of drug paraphernalia and harassment. He was taken to jail.
Dog at large: An animal control deputy responded to a dog at large complaint on Colorado Highway 13 on Oct. 23 at 2:04 p.m. in the Rifle Kevin J. Smith, 49, was issued a summons for not having the dog licenses and allowing it to run at large.
Warrant arrest: On Oct. 23 at 2:07 p.m., deputies contacted a woman at Garfield County Community Corrections on Hunter Mesa Shop Road who had an arrest warrant. Eliza Ann Marie Duran, 35, of Rifle, was arrested and taken to jail.
Harassment: Deputies responded to a reported harassment on County Road 210 outside Rifle on Oct. 24 at 6:38 p.m. Douglas Miles Stewart, 64, of Rifle, was issued a summons for harassment.
Warrant arrest: Deputies located a man with an arrest warrant on Horizon Court in Battlement Mesa on Oct. 24 at 3:50 p.m. Joshua Allen Snyder, 32, of Battlement Mesa, was arrested and taken to jail.

Sex assault: On Oct. 25 at 6:28 p.m., deputies responded to a sex assault that occurred near Rifle. The case is open and active pending investigation.
Warrant arrest: Deputies and an animal control deputy responded to a citizen complaint of a dog barking in the 800 block of West Battlement Parkway on Oct. 25 at 10:21 a.m. Timothy Allen House, 36, of Battlement Mesa, was arrested and taken to jail.
Warrant arrest: Deputies made a traffic stop on County Road 244 on Oct. 25 at 3:04 p.m. April Dawn Hanes, 36, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of driving with a revoked license, driving with obstructed vision and on an active warrant. She was taken to jail and released on bond.
Traffic arrests: Deputies made a traffic stop on County Road 244 outside Rifle on Oct. 25 at 3:04 p.m. Joshua Robert Michaelis, 32, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of having an open alcoholic beverage in a vehicle, eluding, speeding and prohibited use of weapons. A passenger, Mario Manuel Pacheco, 27, of Silt, was arrested on suspicion of having an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle.
Warrant arrest: Deputies stopped a vehicle along U.S. Highway 6 outside New Castle on Oct. 26 at 12:51 p.m. for a traffic violation. The driver, Jad Brandon Locke, 33, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of speeding and on an active warrant and was taken to jail.
Driving offense, warrant arrest: Deputies stopped a vehicle on I-70 outside Silt on Oct. 26 at 1:04 p.m. Lisa Lynn Hankes, 46, of Rifle, was issued a summons for driving with a revoked license. A passenger, Derek Dale Jensen, 29, of Hotchkiss, was arrested on several warrants and taken to jail.
DUI: Deputies stopped a vehicle on I-70 outside Parachute on Oct. 27 at 6 a.m. for a traffic violation. Joseph Cody Creel, 45, of Olathe, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, having an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle, driving with an excessive alcohol content and failure to drive in a single lane. He was taken to jail.
Burglary arrest: Deputies responded to a burglary on County Road 335 outside New Castle on Oct. 28 at 12:46 p.m. Stacia Darline Smith, 20, of New Castle, was arrested on suspicion of possession of burglary tools, second degree trespass, attempted burglary and second degree burglary. She was taken to jail.
