Rifle’s Bartels shoots 74, takes third place at The Bridges

Third place was a popular spot in the standings at The Bridges Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

Just ask Rifle’s Danny Bartels, whose 3-over-par 74 landed him in a four-way tie for third place at a Montrose High School-hosted boys golf tournament.

Montrose’s Kolton Kyne and Owen Parker and Montezuma-Cortez’s Hayden Plewe all matched Bartels’ round to share bronze.

Aspen’s Jesse Beetham shot a 71 and Cortez’s Jakob Rudosky carded a 72 to take first and second, respectively.

As a team, Rifle placed third to notch its fifth straight top-five finish to start the season.

“We’ve had a great start to the season,” Bears coach Jordan Smith said. “We have the potential to do pretty special things for Rifle High School.”

Two of Bartels’ teammates joined him in the 70s in Montrose.

Triston Quigley carded a 77 and Jacob Withee finished his round with a 79. Ty Caron (81) and Teig Hauer (84) weren’t far behind.

Doug Mikesell led Grand Valley with a 77.
