Rifle’s Walters in tie for ninth at 4A girls state golf tournament

After a day of play at the 4A girls golf state tournament, Rifle’s Taylor Walters sits in a tie for ninth place.

On Monday, the junior shot a 4-over-par 77 at Boomerang Golf Links in Greeley, putting her in a deadlock with Bishop Machebeuf’s Alex Trask.

Regis’ Kathleen Kershisnik sits atop the leaderboard after the first of two rounds. She carded a 3-under-par 70.

Walters’ round featured an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole and a birdie on No. 15.

Fellow Bear Alyx Carter, a sophomore, finished her opening round with an 88. She’s currently in a five-way tie for 33rd place. Rifle senior Allison Powell is tied for 46th place after shooting a 93 on Monday.

Glenwood Springs’ Caroline Tham-Johansson, an exchange student from Sweden, also a shot a 93.

Coal Ridge’s Melissa Steinbach shot a 101 and is in 67th place entering today’s final round.
