Rippy in court Thursday

Harley “Dow” Rippy, Jr., accused of vehicular homicide in the death of Timothy W. Curtiss Aug. 20, appeared in District Court in Glenwood Springs Thursday for an arraignment. His attorney, Daniel Recht, asked for a postponement in order to collect more information, called “discovery,” from the District Attorney’s office. The case was continued until Dec. 7.On Aug. 20, according to police reports, Rippy, 50, of Silt, was at the wheel of his 2006 Jeep Wrangler around 1 a.m. heading west on County Road 344 about 14 miles south of Silt. The Jeep went off the left side of the road, continued down an embankment and rolled onto its side. Curtiss, 41, of New Castle, who was in the back seat of the Jeep, was partially ejected as it rolled and was pinned beneath when it came to a stop. Curtiss was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.Curtiss was a 20-year resident of the valley and owned Phones R Us in Rifle.Rippy was jailed after the accident and is now free on $11,750 bond.Contact Donna Gray: 945-8515, ext.
