Road Construction Briefs
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” South Grand Avenue will be closed at 27th street Monday and Tuesday during construction of a new traffic signal there.
Assistant city engineer Steve Vanderleest said only the north side of the intersection will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Vehicles heading south on South Grand Avenue will only be able to turn right through the intersection. All other routes using the north side of the intersection will be closed.
People will be able to drive through 27th Street there and also through the south side of the intersection.
Vanderleest said the road must be closed so W.L. Contractors, of Arvada, can bore underneath roadway for electrical work.
The total cost of installing the four-way traffic light replacing the current two stop signs north and south of 27th Street is about $300,000, but the city received a $200,000 grant from the Department of Local Affairs for most of the cost.
Vehicles heading north and south have had to stop at the stop signs and wait for long amounts of time.
“The traffic light’s going to give them a chance to get in,” Vanderleest said. “The poles will probably be going up in about two weeks. Probably about the third week of
August it should be lit up and ready to go.”
The Colorado Department of Transportation announced Wednesday the closure of the eastbound on-ramp at Rifle’s exit 90 onto Interstate 70 will also be closed due to roundabout construction at the intersection. Exit 90 from I-70 will not be closed.
The project began in June and involves the construction of two roundabouts to improve traffic flow through the area. The city of Rifle and Martinez Western Constructors of Rifle will be closing the eastbound on-ramp from July 26 through July 30 in order to construct the new interstate on-ramp.
Variable message signs will alert traffic of this closure and CDOT has provided the following alternate routes: Highway 6 into Silt, West from Rifle on Highway 6 to the West Rifle Exit 87; and south on Highway 13 to Airport Road, then east to Garfield County Airport/Mamm Creek, I-70 interchange Exit 94.
Construction on the interchange is expected to continue through September.
