Roaring Fork District high school graduations today

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Glenwood Springs High School will graduate 141 seniors in commencement exercises today at 1 p.m. The ceremony will be inside in the high school gym, due to the forecasted inclement weather.

Graduation ceremonies are also today at two other Roaring Fork School District Re-1 high schools.

Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale kicks things off at 10 a.m., and Basalt High School’s graduation is at 4 p.m. Both ceremonies will be in the gym.

Glenwood’s Class of 2009 has four valedictorians ” Janessa Foraker, Stephanie Grange, Whitney Setterberg and Laura Young ” who will team up for the valedictory address.

The commencement address will be given by Kirsten Petre McDaniel, director at YouthEntity [formerly Computers for Kids].

“Kirsten is well-respected, and a very good motivational speaker,” GSHS Principal Paul Freeman said. “She has been very successful and uncompromising about the standards that can be reached, and she gets kids to achieve things that they didn’t know they were capable of achieving.”

RFHS in Carbondale graduates a class of 49 seniors. Rhianna Rollyson is the class valedictorian, and the keynote will be given by former RFHS social studies teacher Anna Chessler Howell.

Closing out the day’s graduation ceremonies for Re-1 will be Basalt High, which graduates a class of 93 seniors this year. Class valedictorian Maggie Summers and Salutatorian Tyler Wilson will be addressing their classmates.

Basalt’s keynote speaker will be science teacher Ryan Wayt.
