Roaring Fork High School mock drunken-driving accident scene all too real

Top: Lisa Weimer reacts and collapses into a police officer’s arms upon arriving at a mock drunken-driving accident scene in the parking lot at Roaring Fork High School Monday to find that son Ryan Weimer (lying under the blanket) was “killed” in the accident. The mock exercise was organized by school officials in cooperation with the Carbondale Fire Department, the Carbondale Police Department and YouthZone to teach students about the dangers and possible consequences of drinking and driving.

Middle: RFHS juniors and seniors watched as emergency crews and police arrived at the accident scene, and arrested the driver (senior Rhianna Rollyson, pictured being “arrested” by officer Wes Orosco for DUI). Counselors conducted a follow-up debriefing and discussion with students afterwards.

Bottom: RFHS senior Cheyene Johnson and fellow students react as the mock accident enactment plays out in the school parking lot.
