The Roaring Fork Rams varsity girls lacrosse team are starting to click on all cylinders as the 2024-25 playoffs near closer.
The Rams hosted the Summit Tigers on Tuesday night for their senior night, and made lasting memories on the field as they destroyed the Tigers 20-4.
Seven different Rams players found the back of the net on a cold and windy Tuesday night at Carbondale Middle School, three of which were playing for one of the last times on their home field. Rams senior Hailey Wolfe, who finished the game with four goals and five assists for nine total points, led the Rams to the dominant win on Tuesday night. Seniors Lilu Illouz, and Josie McKinley both scored hat tricks on senior night.
“It’s been a fantastic run,” Roaring Fork head coach Drew Kitchell said. “I’ve coached some of these girls since they were in fifth grade, and it’s really been amazing. To see them grow up, not only as players but people as well, has been really fun.”
Roaring Fork freshman Eva Feinsinger kicked off the scoring halfway through the first quarter with a pair of goals within 30 seconds of each other. After Feinsinger formed the snowball and rolled it down the hill, the scoring parade couldn’t be stopped. When the horn sounded announcing halftime, the Rams boasted a 10 point 12-2 lead.
“It was great,” Kitchell said. “We had a lot of fun and seeing the seniors play like that on senior night was amazing.
Roaring Fork didn’t let off the gas in the second half, as they exploded for another eight goals, while only allowing two more through the final two quarters of play.
With one more game left in the regular season, Kitchell is already shifting focus to the fine-tuning needed before the playoffs.
“I want to see some more assisted goals,” he said. “A few less individual efforts, but that is something that progresses naturally over the season.”
Roaring Fork will cap off their season when they host the Denver North Vikings at 5 p.m. Friday at Carbondale Middle School. The Rams improved to 10-4 after senior night’s win, 6-4 in league play, which slots them into the third best ranked team in 4A Mountain East.
The state-ranked No. 7 Rams sit in third place in the 4A Mountain East League, trailing Battle Mountain and Highway 82 rival Aspen — leaving them with little chance at a first-round bye. Still, with one game left in the regular season, their current seventh-place standing statewide puts them well within the eight-team CHSAA state playoff bracket.
