Crystal River Elementary School and the Riverview School appointed new assistant principals for the 2025-26 school year, the school district announced in a news release.

“Roaring Fork Schools has appointed two new assistant principals for the 2025–26 school year following the district’s established hiring process for school leaders,” Tuesday’s release said.

The two schools went in opposite directions in their hiring process. CRES looked outside the organization for a new assistant principal, while Riverview promoted from within.

Missy Britton, an eight year RIverview veteran, was named the interim assistant principal for the incoming ’25-’26 school year. Britton was one of the initial members of the Riverview School team and has worked in many facets of the school. Since 2017, she has worked as the dean of culture, literacy coach, affective needs social workers, counselor, and will put on the assistant principal hat in August.

“I’ve had the privilege of working at Riverview since we opened our doors in 2017 and am excited for this new role as Assistant Principal that will allow me to expand my leadership skills and serve the incredible Riverview community in a different capacity,” she said.

Crystal River Elementary School went outside the Roaring Fork Valley for their new assistant principal. The district announced that Nicole Johnson will be the Carbondale elementary school’s 2025-26 assistant principal. Johnson taught for 10-plus years on the Front Range before taking an administrative job as Fort Morgan High School’s assistant principal.

“I’m so honored and excited to join Crystal River Elementary School as assistant principal,” Johnson said.”It’s clear that a strong foundation of care, dedication, and hard work has made Crystal River Elementary a place where students, staff, and families thrive.”

They will both start their new roles in August when the 2025-26 school calendar begins.

“We are so pleased to welcome Missy and Nicole to the Roaring Fork Schools Leadership Team,” Executive Director of Schools Joel Hathaway said. “We know they will both make important contributions to positive student outcomes in our schools next year.”
