Roaring Fork School District selects new Basalt High principal

BASALT, Colorado ” The Roaring Fork School District Re-1 has selected Kevin Schott to fill the Basalt High School principal position beginning this fall.

Schott will take over after current principal Jim Waddick retires at the end of this school year after serving as principal for eight years.

Schott is no stranger to the district. He returns to familiar ground at BHS as he served as assistant principal and athletic director of BHS from 1994-96 before becoming the assistant principal at Grand Junction High School in 1996. Schott is currently principal of GJHS, having been promoted to that position in 2002.

RFSD officials stated that Schott’s strong commitment to students and learning as well as involving teachers and parents in the decision-making process at the school were a few of the talents that were noted by the interview committee made up of students, staff, parents, a board member and district staff.

“Kevin’s experiences as a teacher and administrator at both the middle- and high-school levels, his service on the Colorado High School Activities Association, and his current position as the president-elect of the Colorado Association of Secondary Administrators speak to Kevin’s experience and involvement in education,” read a statement provided by the RFSD.

Schott won’t officially take over until August but said he will be involved during the summer in preparation for the new position.
