Robert Lee McCarthy

Robert Lee McCarthy of Glenwood Springs died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at his home. He was 31.

He was born July 16, 1971, in Glenwood Springs to Joan and Robert McCarthy.

Mr. McCarthy had many passions in his life. Religion was foremost, and he was always ready for a biblical discussion.

He loved music and was a talented guitar player. He was a perfectionist cook who didn’t believe in microwaves. He said the best meals are cooked on a stovetop. He had a quick wit and unique sense of humor that brought laughter to the dinner table.

Mr. McCarthy enjoyed his pet ferret, Davieo, and loved to tell friends and family funny stories about the ferret’s curious adventures.

He was recently making new friends in France and Germany via the Internet, and he enjoyed listening to talk radio.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rebecca and Don Garcia.

He is survived by his parents, Joan and Robert McCarthy of Glenwood Springs; by a brother and sister-in-law, Donnie McCarthy and Jeanne Casey of New Castle; by grandparents Catherine and Jerry Morford of Idaho; by an uncle, Daniel McCarthy of Nashville, Tenn.; by godparents Dennis and Michelle Zwickl of Glenwood Springs; by many cousins; and by his ferret, Davieo.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at Farnum Holt Funeral Chapel, 405 W. 7th St., in Glenwood Springs. A reception will follow in the cafeteria at Valley View Hospital.

Farnum Holt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert Lee McCarthy Memorial Fund at any Alpine Bank.
