Rollin C. Ives

Rollin C. Ives was born March 26, 1923, and died May 30, 2009, at the age of 86. He is survived by Mary Alice Ives, his wife of 61 years; sister Ruth (Jim) Jones; two children, Jeanne (Mike) Corbin and Wayne (Jo) Ives; six grandchildren, Rachel Ives, Sam (Jenni) Ives, Sara (Robbie) Gould, Laura (Michael) Helweg, Daniel Ives and Clayton Ives, plus many others who considered him Dad. He was preceded in death by their eldest son, Tom.

Rollin served our country courageously in World War II and met many times with the surviving members of his unit. After graduating from Iowa State University in mechanical engineering, he worked for John Deere. He then worked for Univac and later Control Data Corp. in the Twin Cities area with the budding computer industry.

His chief interests were loving people, especially those with fewer opportunities and more obstacles, celebrating life with music and caring for God’s creation in nature.

Rollin had an ability to see the humor in life, a lifelong hunger for learning, and an unshakable moral sense. He was greatly respected and will be deeply missed. The family wishes to extend thanks to those who have supported them in this difficult time.

A service was held to celebrate Rollin’s life in Grand Junction. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, if wished, to the Missions Fund, First Presbyterian Church (3940 27 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, CO) or Daystar University in Kenya (Daystar U.S., 5701 Normandale Road #325, Edina MN 55424. Please include “Rollin Ives Memorial” in the memo line of your check.)
