Rollover in Rifle

Two men were injured, one seriously, following a vehicle rollover in Rifle.

Driver Israel Mendoza, 28, of the Gypsum area, was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction for treatment of head injuries and a pelvic fracture. Passenger Caesar Solono, 25, of El Jebel, received moderate injuries.

At 3 a.m. Saturday, Mendoza failed to negotiate a right-hand turn near the intersection of County Road 210 and County Road 294 and ran off the road. The Jeep Cherokee rolled once as it fell into a 100-foot-deep ravine. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt, and Mendoza was ejected.

Colorado State Patrol determined that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Neither man is licensed to drive.
