Rollover on I-70 seriously injures two
The Glenwood Spring Fire Department had to extricate two seriously injured elderly car accident victims from their vehicle on Tuesday, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The car, driven by Rio Lucas, 82, of Centennial, was traveling west on Interstate 70 when Lucas fell asleep behind the wheel. The car nearly collided with a westbound semi truck traveling in the right lane. Lucas swerved back into the left lane, losing control of the car and traveling into the median. He overcorrected, and sent the vehicle back onto the westbound lanes. The car rolled two times across both lanes before coming to rest in the median between I-70 and Highway 6 near milepost 109 at Canyon Creek.Lucas and his wife, Joy, 76, were seriously injured in the crash, but wearing their seatbelts. The seatbelts helped prevent further injury, according to CSP.No alcohol or drug use was suspected in the crash.
