Ronald Robert Richards

Ronald Robert Richards, of Glenwood Springs, Colo., died Sunday, June 9, 2002, in Glenwood Springs. He was 57.

Mr. Richards was born to Wilbur L. Richards and Ruth Anderson on Jan. 13, 1945, in Denver, Colo. He moved to Glenwood Springs in 1971. Mr. Richards was a member of the Glenwood Springs Fire Department for 12 years and the Carbondale Fire Department for seven years. He served as a police officer in Boulder, Colo., and in Carbondale, Colo., and worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation for 10 years, including in the Hanging Lake Tunnel. He enjoyed snowmobiling, going to his cabin on the Flat Tops, and his pugs.

As funeral director and deputy coroner, Richards sought to ease the pain of families during very traumatic times in their lives, and to bring a sense of closure to their pain.

He is survived by son Douglas B. (Megan) Richards, of New Castle, and by a close friend, Evelyn McGill, of Basalt, Colo.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Chapel at Farnum-Holt Funeral Home. Perry Wm. Bell will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Glenwood Springs Fire Department or to the Coal Seam Disaster Relief Fund at any Alpine Bank.

Farnum-Holt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
