CARBONDALE, Colorado ” Tonight, the valley is hosting royalty.

But don’t worry. You don’t have to practice your curtsy.

Denis Mazhukov ” aka the “Russian King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” ” will be bringing down the house at with a few crazy strokes of his piano at 8:30 p.m. at Steve’s Guitar’s.

In slightly shaky English, he described how his dad introduced him to Elvis when he was just six. Rock wasn’t, and still isn’t, popular in Russia, but Mazhukov, now 35, was hooked.

“I think it’s the best music in the world for me. I just love it. I just love it,” he said. “I think I was born to play rock ‘n’ roll.”

He’s not the only one to think that, either.

He’s good enough to have played alongside Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. In fact, Lewis gave him the ultimate compliment.

“Hey, you play like me when I was young,” said Mazhukov, quoting him.

Though he does write his own stuff as well, tonight, he probably won’t be playing it. This is all about the classics.

“It’s real pumping piano rock ‘n’ roll and real boogie-woogie, real Jerry Lee Lewis style,” he said.

And, like any good rock show, screams, dancing and craziness are appreciated.
