Russells lose home, but thankful no lives lost

Dear Editor,

We would like to thank all of our family, friends, High Country 4- Wheelers and the community for the caring and generosity that you have all shown us in this unexpected time of need.

It is amazing and wonderful during this time to know that there are so many people that are pulling for us, and helping out in ways that we would have never expected. It is a help with the uncertainty of this whole experience to know that you are all there for us. What a wealth we really do have in all of you!

There is a special and personal thanks that needs to go out to the Glenwood Springs firefighters who were parked right in our driveway battling the fire. Also, to all of the response teams that came from all over the country to try and help people they don’t even know.

We are eternally grateful for your efforts, and even more grateful that you are still here to go and help others where you are needed.

We were evacuated during Storm King in 1994, and at the time the firefighters were lost, we said that we would have gladly given up our home instead of any lives lost trying to save it. We can now say that in all actuality.

We may have lost our house, and everything in it, but we are still very grateful that none of these incredibly brave and caring people didn’t have to give their lives again.
