Ruth Ann Jessup

Lifelong Glenwood Springs resident Ruth Ann Jessup passed away peacefully Dec. 16, 2007, at her son’s home in New Castle.Ruth was born July 8, 1922, in Glenwood Springs, to Peter and Marie Kirchen. The family moved to Chicago for a couple of years while her father helped with the Kirchen family decorating business. They returned to Glenwood permanently in the early 1930s. Ruth graduated from Glenwood Springs High School.Ruth met Bob Jessup prior to his enlistment into the U.S. Army during World War II. After his return, they were married.Her husband’s passion was to fly, and they left the area for his flying career in Oklahoma, Texas, California, Japan and Alaska. They returned to Glenwood in the ’70s and assumed full-time residence at the family home on Four Mile Road. Those were much cherished years, as they so loved their home and time together.She enjoyed skiing and a lot of time on the Aspen slopes in its early stages, and loved the outdoors. She shared the love of the community and its character. She spent much of her later years helping others.Ruth is survived by her sons Kim (Kimberly) of Grand Junction and Ted (Mary) of New Castle; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband; brother Theodore; sister Betty Tessadri; and grandson Peter Jessup.In accordance with Ruth’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at her son’s home at 29 Buckskin Circle in New Castle.
