Ryan, unable to post bond, back in jail

GLENWOOD SPRINGS – Shawnee Ryan, convicted in Garfield District Court on seven counts of felony theft in August, was jailed on Sept. 6 to await sentencing on Oct. 4.

Ryan, 55, had moved to Cripple Creek, according to her testimony during the trial.

But she is back in the Garfield County Jail because she was unable to arrange for a continuation of the $38,000 bond that left her free while awaiting sentencing, according to a court official.

An interior designer who ran several businesses in the Roaring Fork Valley area, Ryan was convicted on Aug. 14 of bilking dozens of clients for tens of thousands of dollars over a three-year period, from 2007 to 2009.

She still faces trial on a separate charge of passing a bad check while she was out on bond prior to her conviction on the original theft charges.
