Sandra Jill Richardson

Sandra Jill “Sandy” Richardson of Glenwood Springs died Saturday, July 26, 2003, in Grand Junction from ovarian cancer. She was 43.

She was born Dec. 23, 1959, in Cheyenne, Wyo., to Doyce and Gillian Burkes.

The family moved to Glenwood Springs in 1971. She attended Glenwood Springs High School and Colorado Mountain College.



Ms. Richardson worked at Yampah Mountain High School, where she enjoyed working with the students, particularly when they took field trips.

She loved the outdoors and hiking, spending time with family and friends and chasing after her grandchildren. She was also an avid fan of auto racing.



Ms. Richardson is survived by her parents, Doyce and Gillian Burkes of Grand Junction; by sons and daughter-in-law Matthew and Megan Richardson of New Castle, Christopher Richardson of Los Angeles, and Jeffrey Richardson of Glenwood Springs; by a brother and sister-in-law, David and Cathy Burkes of Rifle; by sisters and brother-in-law Donna Burkes of Glenwood Springs, and Susan and Rocky Baros of Sparks, Nev.; by grandchildren Zack and Tamerin Richardson of New Castle; and by a dear friend and companion, Nick Kuhlmann of Glenwood Springs.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1016 Cooper Ave., Glenwood Springs, with the Rev. Roy Altman officiating.
