The Glenwood Springs Post Independent is happy to announce the Santa for Seniors program.
This event is a gift drive that benefits the senior citizens of Garfield County.
The newspaper is asking the community to think of the elderly in their own lives. What if nobody was there for them? How would their needs get met?
The Post Independent is working with Glen Valley Care Center of Glenwood Springs to provide needed items for their residents. After careful evaluation, the items being asked for are very specific.
Ideal gifts include sweatpants, button or zipper-front sweaters or sweatshirts, slippers, hair brushes, combs, blankets, comforters, radios, clocks or clock radios.
Clothing can be any size. All beds are twin size, so blankets or comforters should be twin size.
All gifts should be new, just like the gifts given to other loved ones.
The Post Independent will also accept cash or check donations (made payable to The Glenwood Springs Post Independent) which will be given directly to the Care Center to purchase gifts.
The newspaper prides itself on being a part of the community. The sponsorships the paper is currently involved with are the MS Walk, Kiss-n-Squeal, Advocate Safehouse, Home and Garden Show, Mall Mash, Easter Eggstravaganza, Spellebration, Booster Club, Summer of Jazz, Kiwanis Club, Center for the Arts, Humanitarian Service Awards and many other events and groups.
There are many groups meeting the needs of people in Garfield County, but it appeared the elderly were not included on that list.
The residents of Glen Valley Care Center are there because they need extra care. They also need the community to remember them.
The Post Independent hopes that you, the community, will chose to be a part of this special program. Please help serve our senior citizens in need.
