Save achievements of Carbondale

Dear Editor,

Someone once wrote that Carbondale “typifies the highest achievement in natural resources and human resourcefulness and cooperation.” It appeared in a book called “The Potato,” published in 1912.

It’s my hope that Carbondale will retain those precious amenities by growing slowly and continuing to value its people, its small businesses and its modest individuality.

This has always been a place where we cherish natural beauty, community, and a clear starry sky at night. They knew it in 1912, and we know it now.

That’s where our values lies, not in the ability to shop in one more corporate discount chain store like the ones in Denver, Glenwood and Grand Junction.

Please vote “no” on the Crystal River Marketplace plan July 15 to keep the Carbondale we love.

Linda Romero Criswell
