School board to meet

The Garfield Re-2 Board of Education will meet at 6 tonight at the Learning Opportunity Center in Rifle. Rifle High School staff will present its building improvement plan from 6-7 p.m. The plan will include details about the small-schools initiative program. If the board approves the program, it will involve a schedule change at the high school and more one-on-one contact between students and teachers.Wamsley Elementary School will present its improvement plan from 7-8 p.m.The board will also hear the final reading and vote on the student activities fees policy and before- and after-school programs and fees. Students would pay $50 per student, per sport, each year, and $10 per student, per activity for all nonathletic club memberships. The fee for programs would be $10 per student per day. The fees are expected to offset the cost of rising gas prices.
