The Roaring Fork School District along with Carbondale Elementary School invites parents and community members to attend an informational meeting about the Colorado Department of Educations process for schools on school improvement.Trish Boland, a consultant from the department, will attend to provide information regarding the status of Carbondale Elementary School and the importance of the work that needs to be done this year.Join the community meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Carbondale Elementary School, 600 S. Western State College in Gunnison was the site for the Colorado Bandmasters Western Slope Middle School Honor Band this past weekend. The band wowed the capacity-filled auditorium and was rewarded with a standing ovation at the end of its performance. Three students from Parachutes L.W. St. John Middle School were selected to perform with the honor band. The band was comprised of the best middle school instrumental musicians on the entire Western Slope of Colorado.Following auditions, Anthony Merritt earned the second chair baritone spot, out of six. Sarah Strong was awarded fifth chair flute, out of 14. Taylor Hendricks was called upon with only one days notice, and after only two days of practice placed in the eight-member alto saxophone section.
