Western State College in Gunnison was the site for the Colorado Bandmasters Western Slope Middle School Honor Band this past weekend. The band wowed the capacity-filled auditorium and was rewarded with a standing ovation at the end of its performance. Three students from Parachutes L.W. St. John Middle School were selected to perform with the honor band. The band was comprised of the best middle school instrumental musicians on the entire Western Slope of Colorado.Following auditions, Anthony Merritt earned the second chair baritone spot, out of six. Sarah Strong was awarded fifth chair flute, out of 14. Taylor Hendricks was called upon with only one days notice, and after only two days of practice placed in the eight-member alto saxophone section.
