School to begin after Labor Day for RFSD

The Roaring Fork School District’s 2006-07 school year will begin after Labor Day to accommodate construction projects throughout the school district. The RFSD school board approved next year’s calendar Wednesday night, at one point calling it the district’s “construction calendar.”New staff will be required to begin work on Aug. 23 followed by the rest of district staff on Aug. 28. Classes are set to begin Sept. 5. Winter break is scheduled to begin Dec. 23 and end Jan. 2, 2007. Spring break will be March 26 through March 30, 2007. The final day of school next year will be June 7. High school graduations are set to be held on May 26, 2007 during Memorial Day weekend. According to an e-mail district officials sent to employees on Thursday, staff chose to dedicate an extra day to student instruction time, reducing staff development time by one day. The full calendar is available on the district’s Web site,, and will be sent to parents later this year. Contact Bobby Magill: 945-8515, ext.
