Search on for lost hunter south of Silt

SILT, Colo. – Mesa County Search and Rescue is conducting a search for hunter who is still missing near the Mesa and Garfield county line, about 16 miles south of Silt.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the Mosquito Lake area along the West Divide Creek/79 Road about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on a report of two missing hunters.

Parties from a neighboring hunting camp reported the hunters missing, one of whom was found late that night. The other hunter remained missing this morning.

Two deputies responded with 11 Mesa County Search and Rescue Control (SARC) members, according to a press release from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

“Volunteers and deputies worked overnight to locate the missing hunters,” according to the release. “They did find one adult male, approximately 80 years old, who appeared to be exhausted but otherwise in good condition and was not treated for any medical condition.”

Searchers continue to look for the second missing hunter, who is believed to be a resident of Garfield County and is described as approximately 50 years old and in good health.

Additional Mesa County SARC members were expected this morning to add to the search efforts, in addition to assistance from six Garfield County Search and Rescue members.

This story will be updated as more information is made available.
