Search scaled back for Parachute suspect

PARACHUTE ” Jared Burtard was still at large Thursday morning after triggering school lockdowns and a state of concern in Parachute on Wednesday.

The Garfield County All Hazards Response Team is no longer searching for Burtard, but Parachute Police and regular law enforcement agencies will continue attempting to execute his arrest warrant, according to Garfield County Sheriff’s Community Relations Deputy Tanny McGinnis. Burtard’s whereabouts are still unknown and there is no specific location that is being searched.

Authorities said he pointed a .22 calibur rifle at his brother-in-law. A concerned citizen notified police when Burtard was seen leaving the residence with the loaded gun. He was traveling on foot and thought to be heading out of town towards the northwest.

“He’s a wanted fugitive,” McGinnis said.
