Garfield County Sheriff’s deputy Jim Sears was recently promoted to full-time county emergency manager. Sears, who was part-time commander of the county’s emergency programs, was bumped to full-time manager on Nov. 1. According to a news release sent out Wednesday by Sheriff Lou Vallario, the sheriff’s office has been working during the past several months to make the emergency manager position full time.In an effort to include all of the communities as stakeholders, the sheriff’s office visited each of the county’s six municipalities and five fire districts to ask each for $4,000 toward the program to improve emergency response in Garfield County. “This consortium of participants will allow all of us to work together more closely and provide a safer environment to live in,” the news release said. “We are pleased to announce, with the exception of the city of Glenwood Springs and the Glenwood Springs Fire Department, all of the participants contributed financially to what will become a better managed emergency preparedness and response.””This consortium of participants will allow all of us to work together more closely and provide a safer environment to live in,” the news release said. “We are pleased to announce, with the exception of the city of Glenwood Springs and the Glenwood Springs Fire Department, all of the participants contributed financially to what will become a better managed emergency preparedness and response.”
