Season ends at regionals for Rams, Demons

A second consecutive trip to the 3A state volleyball tournament wasn’t in the cards for Roaring Fork.

At Saturday’s Region C tournament at Valley High School, the Rams dropped all three of their matches in Gilcrest, losing to Holy Family (25-19, 25-22, 25-14), Valley (25-11, 25-11, 25-20) and Faith Christian (27-29, 25-15, 27-25).

Roaring Fork and Faith Christian played a three-game match in the teams’ finale because neither could qualify for state.

The Rams, who were making their third straight appearance at regionals, wrapped a 17-8 season with Saturday’s results.

Last year, Roaring Fork made its first trip to the state tournament since 1990.

Valley, 3A’s defending state champion, won the Region C title by taking down Holy Family in five games in the final. Valley and Holy Family are both headed to next weekend’s state tournament at the Denver Coliseum.

Glenwood Springs’ most successful volleyball season in some time came to an end on Saturday with a trio of losses at the Class 4A Region B tournament in Windsor.

The Demons were defeated by Windsor in three games, Mullen in five games and Silver Creek in four games.

Glenwood ended its season with a 12-14 record. This was the Demons’ first trip to regionals since 2005.

Windsor ended up winning the tournament, going 3-0 on the day. Silver Creek nabbed Region B’s second state tourney berth, taking two of three matches.
