Volunteers are needed to better help Glenwood Springs Senior citizens be able to stay in their home and remain independent. If you can help with basic maintenance, home repair, or yard work, please call 947-8462 or 947-8461 for information about the new program, Helping Hands for Seniors.
Volunteers will be asked to provide their own tools, and a background check is required for every volunteer.
The Good Shepherd Lutheran’s 11th annual Harvest Festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11th at the church, located at 1630 Grand Ave. in Glenwood Springs.
Items for sale will include hand-tied quilts; hand-sewn, hand-knit, and crocheted items; jellies and jams; baked goods; handmade birdhouses; jewelry; walking sticks; bulbs; holiday items; baskets; baby items; “elegant treasures” and more.
Cinnamon rolls and coffee or tea will be available from 8-10 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Proceeds will benefit the Good Shepherd Church and local charities.
The 233rd birthday of the U.S.Marine Corps will be observed at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10 at the Aspen Grove Cemetery Flagpole in Aspen. Marines and friends of the Corps are invited.

Veterans Day ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the Roaring
Fork Valley Veterans Memorial located on the east side of the Pitkin County Courthouse, 506 E Main St. in Aspen. Veterans are encouraged to wear items of military memorabilia.
The Aspen Elks Lodge will host its annual Veterans Day luncheon following the ceremony.
Aspen Grassroots Community TV, Channel 12 will run interviews of local veterans participating in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project throughout the the day.

LIFT-UP is seeking volunteers to assist with the Glenwood Springs registration for holiday meals and Angel Tree gifts for families in need. Time slots are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday Oct. 20 through Nov. 7; and from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 and Nov. 3 at the Glenwood Mennonite Church.

The annual Salvation Army’s cold weather gear drive. Overwhelming generosity last year led to outfitting several hundred people with warm gear.
Please bring your clean, gently-used coats, hats, scarves, gloves and blankets to the Salvation Army in the old Catholic Church at 10th and Grand Avenue in Glenwood Springs between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
