Mountain Family Health Center will be conducting a free health screening to check cholesterol, blood pressure, weight, BMI, and blood sugar levels from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan.23 at the Roaring Fork Family Resource Center, located at Bridges Center on the corner of Sopris Avenue and Third Street in Carbondale. The Roaring Fork Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1016 Cooper Ave. in Glenwood. The program will be a video entitled “Ancient Greece,” which depicts the Acropolis and Parthenon now and long ago. Anyone interested is invited to attend.

Roaring Fork Audubon Society’s monthly program, titled “Protecting Colorado’s Natural Treasures,” will be presented by Brian Kurzel, Colorado Natural Areas program coordinator, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Glenwood Springs Community Center.

Coffee, tea and dessert will be served and the public is welcome.



English In Action is looking for volunteers to work one-on-one with adult immigrants to help them learn English. The next training is from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the El Jebel Center. Volunteers need no previous teaching or foreign language experience, just the desire to make an important difference in someone else’s life.

The historic Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs will host the seventh annual Robert Burns Supper and Ball at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in the hotel’s Devereux Grand Ball Room. The event will include a four-course meal and dessert highlighting Scottish fare.

Through his songs and poems, Burns captured the heart and soul of Scotland.

“Burns Suppers” have been held in honor of his birthday for the past two centuries.

The Hotel Colorado will celebrate this tradition with an elaborate evening of food, ceremonies, dancing, and entertainment hosted by Ron Young of the Celtic band, “Fifth Reel.”

Some of the Bard’s more significant poems and songs will also be performed, including “Auld Lang Syne.” Fifth Reel will play a variety of Scottish music and guests will have the opportunity to try a couple of simple traditional dances.

The Gathering Center in Carbondale is taking Tuesday, Jan. 20 as an opportunity to become more familiar with The Church at Carbondale’s gift to the Roaring Fork Valley.

The Gathering Center would like to invite its neighbors to view this historic event. The broadcasts will begin at 9 a.m., the swearing in will be held at exactly 10 a.m. Various performances and events will follow the swearing in and inaugural address.

The Center will have coffee, cold drinks and lattes along with some brunch items. The Gathering Center is located at 110 Snowmass Drive in Carbondale, next to Crystal River Elementary School.
