Helping Hands for Seniors may be able to help Glenwood Springs area senior citizens (or disabled) who need assistance with basic yard and household maintenance.

This new service program sponsored by High Country RSVP can help with basic yard work, basic maintenance, and basic home repair.

Please call 384-8746. Someone will call you back and try to match you up with skilled volunteers and other community resources and get your job done.

Also call if you want to volunteer to help in this program.

Due to large demand, Colorado Mountain College and High Country RSVP are offering an additional AARP driver session from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 25 and 26; and one full-day session from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 21. Both will be held at the CMC Glenwood Springs Center, 1402 Blake Avenue.

This AARP driver refresher course is designed for drivers 50 and over. Most automobile insurance companies in Colorado offer a discount to those completing the course.

For more information or to enroll, call 384-8747. Leave name, phone number and the preferred class. A volunteer will call back and confirm.

For the 19th consecutive year, High Country RSVP will sponsor free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) consultations for basic federal and state tax returns.

This service is provided at no charge for low- to moderate-income clients, seniors, and disabled individuals from Aspen to Parachute/Battlement Mesa. Appointments will be arranged from Feb. 6 to April 6.

All locations will be happy to arrange an appointment. Call 384-8740 and leave name, address, telephone number, and the preferred location. Services are offered in Aspen, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, Spring Valley, Rifle, and Parachute/Battlement Mesa. A volunteer will return the call and schedule an appointment.
