Sex offender appears in court

Convicted sex offender Loy Vondette, of Rifle, made a brief appearance in district court Thursday to answer the latest charges against him. His arraignment was continued to Oct. 27.Vondette is charged with multiple counts of second-degree kidnapping and enticement of a child stemming from an incident in July in the Palomino Park subdivision in Rifle, in which he allegedly tried to coax two young girls into his car. Vondette also is charged with attempting to entice two girls on June 20 in Apple Tree Park in New Castle. On Aug. 4, he allegedly propositioned a policeman’s wife for sex in Eagle.Vondette was arrested Aug. 10 and is being held in the Garfield County Jail on $100,000 bond.He also has a history of sex offenses and is registered as a sex offender in Garfield County. In 1994, he was convicted on two counts of enticement of a child and served six years in prison.
