Sheriff: Favorable decision for ACLU lawsuit

Staff Report

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” A favorable decision in the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals should mean the ACLU’s lawsuit challenging Garfield County Jail procedures will lose its class-action status, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Wednesday, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court’s decision about a separate ACLU lawsuit challenging practices at the El Paso County Jail.

The decision would mean the lawsuit can no longer go forward on behalf of all inmates, future past and present. The ACLU lawsuit alleges prisoners at the Garfield County Jail are subjected to excessive use of force with Tasers and suffer other mistreatment.
