Shrull wins national newspaper awards

Post Independent
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

Dale Shrull has been recognized by the Inland Press Association’s annual newspaper contest with two awards for writing/reporting.

Shrull was recognized for work that he did for the Glenwood Springs Post Independent this summer.

The contest represents some of the best journalism from around the nation and recognizes work in just three categories.

Shrull won awards in two of the categories: A first place in the Personality/ Individual Profile Stories for a story about a man who found the body of another climber who fell to his death near the summit of Longs Peak, one of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks. Shrull won a second place in the Explanatory Reporting category for a series of stories on the 9th Judicial District Drug Court program, and some of its clients who successfully graduated from the program. Clients of the program were former drug addicts and dealers who turned their lives around with the help of the program.

Shrull accepted his awards at Inland’s annual national convention in Chicago on Oct. 25. The Glenwood Springs Post Independent competes in the 10,000 and under circulation division.

Inland, which was established in 1885 and is based in Chicago, is one of the largest and most prominent press and newspaper organizations in the nation.
