Sidney M. Keifer

Sidney M. Keifer of Rifle died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in Rifle. He was 81.

Mr. Keifer was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Port Huron, Mich., to Theodore and Clara (Taylor) Kiefer. He attended school through the eighth grade.

He served in the Army’s 50th Infantry in World War II, achieving the rank of sergeant and serving in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.



He married and later divorced. His former wife, Margarete, of Carbondale, survives.

Mr. Keifer worked for more than 30 years for Ford Motor Co. in automobile manufacturing.



His hobbies were deer hunting and working around the house. He loved to repair things, garden, clean, shovel snow and, most importantly, organize.

He previously lived at Sunnyside Retirement Center in Glenwood Springs.

Mr. Keifer was a twin and the last surviving brother in his family of origin.

He is survived by daughters Therese Thompson of Nottingham, N.H., and Beverly Compton of Carbondale; and by friends at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be held later.

Rifle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
