GLENWOOD SPRINGS , Colorado ” Municipal elections will be held today in Silt and Carbondale.

Silt Mayor Dave Moore faces a recall election. Voters must decide by a majority whether Moore will be recalled. A second ballot question decides his replacement, but former town administrator Rick Aluise is the only candidate for mayor.

For the town Board of Trustees, newcomers Peggy Tibbetts, Sonny Fernandez and Nicky Leigh compete with incumbents Joe Sos and Bobby Hays for election to four trustee seats. Incumbents Jim Voorheis and Ron Morgan decided not to seek re-election. There are no write-in candidates, according to town clerk Sheila McIntyre.

Silt voters must also decide if they want the town to start a 2.5 percent lodging tax. Another ballot question, if approved, would transfer more responsibility to the town administrator mainly involving personnel issues.

Ballots were already mailed out to registered voters, but anyone can call Town Hall at 876-2353 or stop by between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. There is a possibility people who haven’t received ballots can still vote today.

In Carbondale, Ed Cortez is running for re-election, with six other candidates seeking election to four open seats on the town board. The other candidates are: John Hoffmann, Frosty Merriott, Barry Maggert, Pam Zentmyer, Brent Moss and Dan Van Devander. Sean Keery dropped out of the race.

The three candidates with the highest number of votes will serve a four-year term, while the candidate with the lowest number of votes will serve a two-year term, according to town clerk Cathy Derby. There are no ballot questions and no write-in candidates.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Polling places are: Precinct 1, Carbondale Fire Training Center, Highway 133 and Meadowood Drive; Precinct 2, River Valley Ranch Sales Center (Old Thompson Barn), 333 RVR Drive; and Precinct 3, Carbondale Town Hall, 511 Colorado Ave. Anyone who needs to figure out where to vote should call Town Hall at 963-2733.
