Silt chamber announces business, citizen and volunteer of the year

The Silt Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the recipients of its annual Business of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards for 2001.

The recipient of the 2001 Business of the Year award is Starr-Western Real Estate Inc. of Glenwood Springs and Silt.

The Silt office, under the leadership of Glenn Ault, is working to improve the appeal of Silt with remodeling and rebuilding commercial real estate along Main Street. The company’s projects include Silt Revitalization Inc., a cooperative effort by Silt officials, business leaders and the Silt Area Chamber of Commerce.

The 2001 Citizen of the Year is Detective Michael Williams of the Silt Police Department. Williams is instrumental in the DARE Program, the annual bike rodeo and community barbecue, and has been a strong supporter of youth programs.

His dedication to his profession as a police officer is a fine example for others to follow, chamber officials said.

Bob Wenzel, 2001 Volunteer of the Year, is a retired engineer and transplant to the Silt area. Wenzel is a tireless volunteer for chamber and community projects.

He got involved shortly after moving to Silt from Las Vegas. The chamber considers itself fortunate to have retirees like Wenzel in the community.
