Staff ReportA Silt man suffered serious injuries Wednesday when his pickup truck slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer between Rifle and Silt. The accident happened at 12:05 p.m. near the 94.5 mile marker of Highway 6&24. Joshua Van Gaalen, 30, of Silt was headed east on the highway when he hit the back of a stopped tractor-trailer that was waiting to turn left into a private driveway, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The pickup skidded for 27 feet before hitting the truck. Van Gaalen, who suffered facial cuts and chest injuries, was taken to the Grand River Medical Center in Rifle, then flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.Highway 6&24 was closed in both directions for about three hours after the crash.
