Silt mayor decides to run again

SILT – Mayor John Evans has announced that he intends to seek another four-year term as mayor in the April 4 municipal election.”I’ve been encouraged by numerous people that I have respect for to run again,” Evans said Sunday evening. “I have a strong sense of community and feel I want to continue to be an influential member of the town board and involved in the direction the town is going and the path we’re on.”Evans has served nine years on the Silt Town Board, the last five as mayor. He currently works as the head of facilities management for Alpine Bank, where he has been employed for nearly 12 years.Last week, when contacted by the Post Independent, Evans had not decided whether he would run for mayor again or not.”I’ve decided to run again,” he said. “I feel there’s more work to be done and I don’t want it to be sidetracked. Silt is in a great position to continue to invent itself.”Along with the mayor’s position, there are four trustee seats also up for re-election. Nomination petitions for all town board positions will be available at Silt Town Hall on Monday, Feb. 13, and must be turned in by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 3. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, a resident of the town for one year and a registered voter. For more information, call town clerk Sheila McIntyre at 876-2353.
