‘Skittles’ yields a Parking Perks $500 win for county appraiser
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – Greg Wetzel, an appraiser with the Garfield County Assessor’s Office, is the most recent winner in the city of Glenwood Springs Downtown Parking Perks promotion.
Wetzel commutes by bike each weekday from his downtown home to his office in the county courthouse. Earlier this summer, he registered his bike – named “Skittles” – online at the official contest website.
Skittles was identified in a bike rack in front of the county building earlier this month, and Wetzel was awarded a $500 cash-equivalent prize for shopping and dining in downtown Glenwood Springs.
Downtown Parking Perks rewards commuters to the downtown for parking vehicles in identified alternative lots, or cycling. Over 100 downtown employees and commuters are voluntarily participating in the promotion, and their efforts help make the limited short-term parking available to visitors and shoppers during construction.
Wetzel is an avid outdoors enthusiast, and skiing and cycling are two of his favorite activities.
When asked whether he plans to continue biking through the winter, he replied, “I’ll need some bigger tires.” Wetzel says he’ll use his winnings for holiday gifts and will shop for some studded snow tires for his mountain bike, too.
The Downtown Parking Perks promotion will continue through the Glenwood Springs downtown construction period that will conclude in fall 2013. The promotion still has $10,000 in cash-equivalent tokens to award to registered participants.
All community members ages 18 and up are invited to participate; registration and program details are available at http://www.downtownparkingperks.com.
