Snow heads to Aspen, Snowmass

ASPEN ” A snow and blowing snow advisory remains in effect until noon Monday for much of western Colorado, including the mountains surrounding Aspen and Snowmass.

Snow began falling late Sunday in Aspen, and the Aspen Skiing Co. reported 4 inches of new snow in its Monday morning snow report. Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands picked up 3 inches, and Buttermilk was coated with 2 inches.

The Pacific storm will bring periods of snow to the region throughout the morning, according to the National Weather Service. Total accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are forecast by midday.



Colorado’s Front Range could see 8 to 16 inches in the foothills before the fast-moving storm tracks out of Colorado. Echo Mountain, a small ski area west of Denver, reported 10 inches of new snow on Monday morning ” tops in the state.

The weather service is calling for heavy snow through Monday afternoon for the Front Range, from Fort Collins to Denver to Castle Rock, as well as Georgetown and Fairplay. The northeast plains are also expected to get some snow.



Around western Colorado, Sunlight Mountain Resort near Glenwood Springs reported 5 inches of new snow on Monday morning and Powderhorn, in far western Colorado, picked up 7 inches. Keystone and Breckenridge both reported 6 inches of new snow, Vail picked up 4 inches and Telluride got 3 inches. Steamboat Springs had only a half-inch of fresh stuff by early Monday.
