GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Drivers going too fast for winter conditions caused a handful of accidents and closed down Interstate 70 Tuesday morning.

Just a couple of inches of snow had fallen in Glenwood Springs.

I-70’s westbound lanes closed at West Glenwood Springs from about 8-9:15 a.m. after several vehicles ended up off the interstate. The accidents were caused mainly by people driving too fast for conditions and losing control, said Colorado State Patrol Capt. Rich Duran. They involved property damage but no serious injuries.

Also Tuesday morning, there were multiple single-vehicle accidents just west of Glenwood Springs in South Canyon.

Around 9:30 a.m., someone crashed about two miles east of Hanging Lake Tunnel and temporarily blocked one westbound lane. The accident caused minor injuries.

“We also had several vehicles off the road near Rifle,” Duran said. “Those were also due to people driving too fast for conditions.”

The CSP encourages drivers to drive carefully and slow down when the roads are slick.

The National Weather Service expected a chance of 1-3 more inches of snow last night in Glenwood Springs. More snow isn’t in the forecast until Friday.
