SNOWMASS VILLAGE A Basalt man was found dead in Brush Creek in Snowmass Village on Monday. Officials didn’t release his identity Monday evening pending notification of next of kin.The man was in an overturned vehicle straddling Brush Creek, with its passenger area partially submerged, according to Snowmass Village police Sgt. Brian Olson.Town employees discovered the wreck around noon. No one had come forward by Monday evening with information about when or how the accident happened, Olson said.Olson said it appeared the car, a black Nissan Altima with Colorado plates, was headed out of the village when the driver lost control as he was about even with the Alpine Bank building on Brush Creek Road near the Snowmass Center. The stream bank is very steep at that point, and there is a heavy undergrowth of brush that concealed the vehicle, according to Olson.Olson said there was no indication that there was a passenger in the car. The Colorado State Patrol conducted an accident investigation at the scene early Monday afternoon.Olson speculated that the man might work somewhere in Snowmass Village.Snowmass police were in the process of interviewing possible witnesses and visiting worksites.
