Solar home tour from 10-2 on Saturday

When Garfield County residents Mike and Penny McDill were having a house built last year, they knew they wanted to harness the sun to help power their mountain home. They didn’t know enough about how a solar system would work, so they set out to see for themselves by visiting several homes during the 2009 local solar home tour. This fall they are the happy owners of a six-kilowatt solar electric system at their new home in the Elk Springs subdivision. Their home, between Glenwood Springs and Carbondale, will be part of the 2010 Garfield County Solar Energy Tour. The free, self-guided solar tour runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, with nine locations in or around Carbondale, El Jebel, Glenwood Springs and Rifle. Maps and addresses are available for download at, or by calling CLEER at 704-9200.
