Sophie Mary Braun

Sophie Mary Braun, 96, died Sunday, April 27, 2003.

She was born on Jan. 27, 1907, in Kansas City, Kan., to Apolonia Smuk and Matthias Sterbenz. She married William John Braun on Jan. 29, 1925. With great dedication, she raised her family, then worked as a professional seamstress for 25 years.

After retirement in 1974, Sophie moved to Glenwood Springs to be close to her daughter, Barbara. During those years, she enjoyed playing pinochle, crocheting and being an active member of St. Stephen Church’s Altar and Rosary and the Legion of Mary. Due to health reasons, she returned to Kansas in 1998, and resided at Villa St. Francis.



Sophie was devoted to her family and to her religion. She will be remembered by her six children, 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Sophie was preceded in death by her husband; her sister, Mary Fugina; her brothers, John, Rudolph, Matthew and Joseph; and six infant children.



Surviving family includes: Charles (and Yvonne) Braun of Kansas City, Kan., Eugenia (and Gerald) Meyer of Shawnee, Kan., JoAnn Braun of Mound City, Kan., George Braun of Cathedral City, Calif., William (and Jean Berry) Braun of Topeka, Kan., and Barbara (and Terrance) Kelly of Glenwood Springs.
