Speak your mind on Red Feather Ridge

Dear Editor,

On Thursday, Glenwood Springs City Council will once again address the issues of annexing Red Feather Ridge and moving the Urban Growth Boundary.

As many of you know, 1,000 citizens of Garfield County (about 700 residents of Glenwood Springs) have placed their names on an informal petition, asking the council to reconsider support of this annexation.

These petitions have been circulated by Community Voices for Responsible Growth (CVRG). The intent of those petitions is to demonstrate to the council that their constituents do not support their decision.

Council was instructed, by the city attorney, that they should not listen to any information concerning this matter during the weeks between their Jan. 8 meeting and the upcoming meeting on Feb. 20. This “quasi-judicial” gag goes against what most of us feel is the council’s job, the job of representing the citizens.

The city attorney advised that if council changes its support, the city could be open to litigation by the developers. Only at the official hearing can council members hear, read or see any information.

So, citizens of Glenwood Springs, your only hope of representation on this matter is to have your names placed on a petition or come to the council meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

For more information, e-mail info@cvrg.net or attend the CVRG meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Colorado Mountain College Blake Avenue building.
