Speech, music to be part of Yellow Ribbons event

Staff Report Veterans will have the opportunity to remember the past with soldiers in active duty during a reception on June 7.A convoy of community members and soldiers will travel from the Glen Valley Care Center to attend a reception at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in Rifle as part of the Yellow Ribbons all the Way Home event.State Rep. Gregg Rippy, R-Glenwood Springs, will speak at the reception, said Anne Leach, activities director for the home.After the event, the convoy will travel to the Hotel Colorado with yellow ribbons leading the way along the route.Entertainment at the hotel will include a presentation by a Teddy Roosevelt look-alike, who will join a lineup of local musicians including the Gabossi sisters and saxophonist Bryan Martin. A bagpipe player, Desmond O’Boyle, also will perform.The hotel will also be decorated with enormous yellow ribbons, said Betty Scranton, a community activist and event organizer with Donna Fell and Valerie Keith.
