Glenwood Springs and Coal Ridge high schools kick off the girls soccer playoffs with first-round games this afternoon.
Twelfth-seeded Glenwood (14-1) will host No. 21 Thompson Valley (10-5) at 6 p.m. in Class 4A action.
In the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, sixth-seeded Coal Ridge (12-1-2) will play host to 27th-seeded Bennett (8-4-2) at 4 p.m. Wednesday was reserved by the Colorado High School Activities Association for first-round 3A games, but the teams opted to move their meeting up a day.
In 3A action Wednesday, 12th-seeded Basalt (10-2-3) will host No. 21 Bayfield (8-3) at 2 p.m. No. 19 Aspen (10-2-2) visits No. 14 Telluride (9-3) for a 4 p.m. game.
Glenwood Defiance Rugby is ready to kick off training for its upcoming season.
Training will be held at Glenwood Park at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting today. No experience is necessary and players of all skill levels are invited to play.

The beach volleyball league at Chomp’s Deli in Glenwood Springs is now taking registration for four-person teams. The cost is $25 per team and the fee includes all equipment and refreshments. Matches take place on Saturday and Tuesday nights.
