The 12th annual Kenny Cline Memorial Sequoia Glen 5K will take place on Saturday, March 12, at 3 p.m.

The race starts and finishes at the base of Mitchell Creek Road in West Glenwood Springs. The cost to enter is $10, with all proceeds going to benefit the Pauline S. Schneegas Wildlife Foundation in Silt and the Rifle Animal Shelter.

This is the first of six races in the 2011 Colorado River Valley Charity Race Series. Registration begins at 2 p.m. on race day or from 3-6 p.m. at the race start area on Friday, March 11.

Celebrate the snow and the Rio Grande Trail by participating in the Town to Town Tour on Saturday, Feb. 19.



The Town to Town Tour is a 19-mile, noncompetitive cross-country ski and snowshoe tour from Aspen to Basalt along the Rio Grande Trail.

Presented by Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers, the tour is a fundraiser to support the nonprofit in its efforts to build and maintain trails and conduct conservation projects on the area’s public lands. In its first two years, the event drew about 360 participants and volunteers.

The tour starts at the Rio Grande Plaza in Aspen and finishes in downtown Basalt with an alternate start in Woody Creek. Snacks and beverages are served along the route. Shuttles are provided.

All levels and ages are encouraged to participate. Early registration fees (before 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18) are $30 for individuals and $45 for families/partners, and $40 for individuals and $65 for families/partners on the day of the event.

Rifle High School has an immediate opening for a girls soccer coach position. It will be a one-year position.

Volunteers are needed for the Feb. 25 Special Olympics Winter Games at Sunlight Mountain Resort.

Alpine skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing competitions are on the agenda.
